F.A.Q'S
1.) Why am I selling "Nick"?
It's really a tough and easy decision simultaneously. I adore this horse, but he really blossoms with riders who know less than me. I have seen him in "full" training with me, and also in light training with other riders. I can see his quality of life increases noticeably when he is the half of the rider-horse partnership that knows more. Thus since he has given me a great 3 years and has improved so much, I am going to find him the best home and make some money so I can do it all again with another horse.
2.) What has Nick done competitively or away from the barn?
Ok as a list:
4 novice Unrecognized 1 unrecognized training Horse Trials (5th, 5th, 3rd, 2nd and completed)
1 sanctioned foxhunt opening meet
3 Jumper shows (At least one ribbon every show) up to 3'6"
2 Combined tests (Novice and training...placed well...just can't remember where!! :-S
3.) What did his racing career consist of?
He was born in Ireland, and trained as a race horse in England. AS a 2 yr old he ran a handful of time in England. He did relatively well. As a late 2 yr old, he was shipped to the us, in particular to California. Since he had raced on English turf, he didn't take to the American turf as well. In fact in the US he only "hit the board"(1st-3rd) once! He raced lightly from age 3-5 and finally the owners gave up. He did swicth owners around late age 3 and went to NY. He equally disliked east coast tracks. I have his official record on my old computer and will find it or if you like you can purchase a copy on Equineline.com. AS stated before his Jockey club name is "Close Relative" and he is a foal of 1994, and his dam was Jamaican Punch.
4.) How high can he jump?
This is not a question I personally like since I don't begin to think Nick has tapped into his potential. He has cleared a 4'3" oxer, albeit a narrow one as is pictured on page 2. He cleared it by a few inches so I would guess that given being fit and in work he could easily clear a bigger one. One jumper rider came to see him and cantered down over some sizeable wide oxers and they weren't smaller than 4'3" but I didn't measure them at the time. But he "boinged" right over all of them!!
5.) What do I think he wants to do?
EAT!!! No seriously, he would love a home where he has a job and someone who loves him abundantly. He deserves this. He would be a great Pony Club mount and also a great horse for the smaller amateur. I doubt he'd like a dressage only life since he adores jumping! He could easily fit into an eventing, foxhunting or jumpers program. Also he really wants to be a Thelwell Pony type. If you're not family with this term, think of the fattest happiest to be ridden pony that plops over anything but just as quickly will stop and graze while you count fireflies lying on his back!!!
Nick means a lot to me and I am going to do my best to ensure he matches well with whomever is his lucky new owner.
He has done his time slugging through a life he didn't like (Racing in the US), and he has given me a heck of a good time as he learned jumping and eventing and the fun stuff. Now its time for me to give it back to him.
IF you think you can be his match, contact me via email, phone or snail mail.
